Hi friends, quick bat signal here—A neighbor of mine (who you will hear more about in a later post) organized a small group of us to sponsor a Ukrainian refugee family through Welcome Connect, a public-private program, chaired by 4 former Presidents/First Ladies (I think you can guess which one is not involved), that mobilizes private citizens/groups to help settle refugees in the US.
We found out today that Tatiana and Sergei will be arriving on April 8 (!), and they basically need everything—housing, jobs, etc, etc. So we are raising money for all of that.
A special plea for those of you who have pledged money to this newsletter—First of all, THANK YOU, so much, this is so encouraging to me, you have no idea how much. However, I do not plan to monetize at least until 2025 (if ever). So, I would be honored and grateful if you would donate the money you pledged to this Go Fund Me instead.
Here are some pictures of Tatiana, Sergei, their adult daughter (who is coming later), and their little dog, Uma.
Here is what their city looks like now:
Again, here is the Go Fund Me.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Thank you for doing this. Will chip in. We have agreed to sponsor a family under the Ukrainian United program. It’s something, amidst the madness.
I didn’t know there was a program but I live in a RV resort/HOA for permanent tiny home residents and there’s several cheap RVs with a deeded lot for sale. Granted Cleveland GA is isn’t very diverse but we do have a small community of Amish (I see them shopping in Walmart and yes they own cars). We have work (mostly fast food and grocery store) but Gainesville is just 35 minutes south. If you need more info on the area LMK. The RVs are actually listed in Facebook marketplace and some tiny homes on realtor.com. It’s really a lovely area and the full time residents are friendly and helpful, mostly seniors and some Florida expats. No public transport and a great vet for their pup.
