Hi friends, I should have let you know this before now, but didn’t think of it!
I’m leading a study of Caleb Campbell’s Disarming Leviathan: Loving Your Christian Nationalist Neighbor the next three Tuesday nights (Jan. 7, 14, 21) on zoom 7 pm EST for my church.
Caleb is an evangelical pastor with whom I am sure I disagree on some issues (and frankly, as a missionary kid, I find his “mission field” motif triggering LOL), but I think the book really helps you understand the mindset of this group of people, and his practical tips are useful and strike the right tone. They overlap with social science research I’ve read about on how people change their minds. Reading it made me realize anew how badly I’ve probably already messed up many interactions…. More on that for Wednesdays post.
Bottom line, you don’t have to be a Christian or religious to get something out of this book and discussion. And given how prominent this ideology is in American culture, I’m sure you interact with adherents in your lives or you will eventually. The future of democracy may depend on how we confront this.
If you would like to join, please email/message me for the link. I will confirm that you are not a troll and send it to you.
Thanks!
Yes I would like the link!
