Congratulations!

Cherish these last few months as 18th-century wallpaper sommelier for Kirsten Sinema :-) Clothing that loud needs quiet wallpaper, I'm sure.

To inspire your writerly dreams, I thought I'd share the oddest passage I've read online in a while:

"The dandruff world is poised for a captivating phase ahead, ushering in a period of transformation and exploration. This shift, though not always synonymous with excitement, promises to yield compelling insights and innovation."

Not always synonymous with excitement – but sometimes! For some people in certain amounts!

Nice work Holly! I'm excited to read your book. Start lining up those speaking engagements now, especially since you may have some free time on your hands in between hand washing dishes and floor mopping. (Insert eye roll) I'm really happy for you. Huge news and glad you shared. Come home please.

After reading your beautiful account of your climb and sharing your girl’s weekend with a lady friend from church who also has that kind of super long, super close relationship with girls she grew up with, I decided to become a paid subscriber only to find no “button.” I definitely plan on doing so when it becomes available!

I look forward to reading more from you.

PS I was the oldest of latch key kids with a “non-traditional” mother. Good luck and Godspeed!

I went with 18th century wallpaper curator, assuming it’s the version of the 18th century that ended in 1789.

I got to be a tradwife for a few years, and I recommend it. We had both been working full time and raising kids, and then taking care of aging parents. After a few months of me being home we were sitting at breakfast one Saturday looking at each other and saying “what do you want to do today?” It was the first weekend we had had where we had absolutely no obligations or undone chores.

Yes, a Trad Wife of older or grown children is a fine lifestyle, methinks :)

My grandmother worked after her kids left home, and then quit her job to be “a lady of leisure.” It sounds like a better gig than being a tradwife. With her it was entirely tongue in cheek..she had a great sense of humor.

Speaking as an older man, most couples I know had both working most of the time. For a few (my brother for one) the man earned enough that it was eventually possible for the wife to not work. For my brother, his wife was laid off from a bank and with 3 kids it was convenient just to stay home. Raising kids and running a home are in fact real work and important. In the end it is one thing for a couple to be able to work it out so one can run the home, and it is entirely other to teach that God or whomever mandates a specific role for a woman.

My favorite former CIA person, at least up till now, is Alice Lyman Miller: China specialist, rock music fan, cat lover, and hilariously witty political commentator. Also an interesting side story about transsexual identity and the process of transitioning and its impact on her family and work relationships.
